Resumen:This paper presents the analysis and design of a new multi-phase resonant inverter suitable for highpower
high-intensity discharge (HID) lamp ballast applications. The proposed inverter results from the
parallel connection of three class D LCpCs resonant inverters. The dimming control of the power
supplied to the lamp is implemented at constant frequency, modifying the phase displacement between
the drive signals of each inverter. At full power operation, the inverter guarantees that the power
applied to the lamp is within the recommended operation area regardless of the lamp aging. Since the
load current is share among the paralleled inverters, the resulting efficiency is higher than a singlephase
solution. Besides, this approach allows the use of low cost components for high power
applications. Finally, the design sequence also considered the tolerance of circuit components in order
to achieve a better production yield at industrial scale. The proposed design is validated with
experimental results and a statistical simulation by the Monte Carlo method.
